Gulf Islands Closes Facilities for Inclement Weather | US NATIONAL PARK SERVICE
Gulf Islands National Seashore will temporarily close visitor facilities for use due to anticipated inclement weather.
Facilities in the following areas will close beginning:
Wednesday, December 21 – Okaloosa Day Use Area and Opal Beach Complex
Thursday, December 22 – Naval Live Oaks, Perdido Key, Fort Barrancas, and Fort Pickens Areas
These facilities will remain closed through Monday, December 26. The park, its beaches, and the Fort Pickens and Davis Bayou Campgrounds and associated restrooms, and hookups will remain open; however, dump stations will be closed.
“The park is taking precautions to protect the park’s infrastructure while keeping the safety of staff and visitors in mind as inclement weather approaches us this holiday season. Due to the predicted low temperatures and the need for winterizing, the park has decided to close visitor facilities temporarily on December 21, to prevent long-term or severe damage. We will continue to monitor the cold weather system as it approaches and make necessary adjustments as needed,” said Darrell Echols, Gulf Islands National Seashore Superintendent.
