Chairman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after the release of omnibus government funding legislation for Fiscal Year 2023.

“Over the last two years, we had a real opportunity to help improve the lives of children and families by passing a comprehensive child nutrition reauthorization. My committee took this opportunity seriously, and advanced the Healthy Meals, Healthy Kids Act, a comprehensive, science-driven reauthorization of federal child nutrition programs that would meet the needs of children and families.

“The child nutrition language included in the end-of-year funding bill incorporates parts of the House’s reauthorization, Healthy Meals, Healthy Kids Act. For example, it includes a provision to permanently authorize the Summer EBT program. This proposal falls far short of a comprehensive reauthorization that America’s children and families deserve, although I am grateful we will be able to make some progress toward our ultimate goal of eliminating child hunger.”
