Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo said the signing of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 into law shows President Joe Biden can deliver on his promises to the nation that build on a modern investment strategy.

Raimondo made the statement as she addressed the fiscal year 2023 appropriations for the U.S. Department of Commerce after Biden signed the bill into law, according to a Dec. 29, 2022, news release.

“Once again, President Biden is showing that the United States government is capable of delivering on its promises to the American people, and I congratulate everyone who worked so hard to pass this omnibus spending bill into law before the year’s end,” Raimondo said in the release.

The Commerce Department’s successful implementation of programs that get funding through the American Rescue Plan, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act and the Inflation Reduction Act, will show that investing in the American people creates an economy with shared prosperity for all. The programs are investments in areas such as job training, basic research, high-tech manufacturing and high-speed internet for all Americans, according to the release.

The programs invest in people who drive the U.S. economy, particularly those Raimondo said are historically left out and underserved, the release reported. They will gain access to the tools, technologies and capital needed to thrive.

“And while we build resiliency and capacity at home, we will also build a modern American investment strategy that expands and enhances international economic engagement in a way that benefits both our allies and our workers, while keeping advanced technology out of the hands of our adversaries,” she said, according to the release.
