Johnson: 'Employers and workers in the growing craft brewery business will have access to training and education'

The U.S. Department of Labor recently announced it renewed its partnership with the Ohio craft brewing industry to promote workplace safety.

According to a news release, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor reaffirmed its partnership with groups that represent many of Ohio's craft brewers in an effort to increase workplace safety in the sector. The original agreement was made in October 2018 and was extended in December 2020.

“The renewal of this alliance ensures that, for another two years, employers and workers in the growing craft brewery business will have access to training and education they need to operate and work safely,” OSHA Area Director Larry Johnson said in the release. “Alliance partnerships are a proven methods for using industry and professional resources to ensure workplaces are safe for everyone involved.”

Alliance members will pledge to continue creating efficient safety and health education and training programs for brewery staff at all levels, which will include sharing access to and use of the organization's already-existing web-based training courses on topics like grain handling, mashing, transfer and boiling, whirlpool and cooling, fermentation cleaning and sanitizing, as well as use of powered industrial trucks for cellaring and bottling, the release reported.
