Readout of Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s Meeting with Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo

U.S. Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield met today with Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo and welcomed him to the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit. 

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield thanked the president for Ghana’s strong partnership on the UN Security Council, including on issues such as the global impact of Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. 

The Ambassador also asked for the president’s perspective on Security Council reform in light of the evolving dynamics of the international system. 

The Ambassador and the President discussed matters of security and governance in West Africa, including the role of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the development of the Accra Initiative.
