The U.S. Department of Labor made the Spanish-language time sheet app for iOS or Android smartphones, which counts work hours, break time and overtime worked and determines earnings owed, freely accessible.
The department’s Wage and Division time sheet app has been updated to give both employees and employers more access, according to a Jan. 11 news release.
“Making our time sheet app more accessible to more workers will help us reach and inform them, help them track their hours and earnings and show them we are here to help when they need us,” Principal Deputy Wage and Hour Administrator Jessica Looman said in the release.
The app will make it easier to record hours properly, ensuring companies pay their employees what they are legally owed, and preventing expensive infractions of federal labor regulations, the release reported.
The software, which was created jointly by the division and the department’s Office of the Chief Information Officer, enables employees to make sure all of their work hours are documented, including those spent traveling, teleworking, working before or after shifts or logging in while on call, according to the release. To help more workers keep track of their working hours and confirm their pay records are accurate, the app offers instructions and advice.
Looman said vulnerable workers may not know their rights or understand English, and they may fear losing their job or jeopardizing their immigration status if they ask about pay practices, the release reported.
