Secretary of State Antony Blinken said he did not know government records were taken to the Penn Biden Center, where he had served as managing director.

Blinken, speaking during a joint conference Jan. 17 with UK Foreign Minister James Cleverly, said he and the administration would cooperate fully with the review.

“I was surprised to learn that there were any government records taken to the Penn Biden Center,” Blinken said during the conference.

The first documents were found Nov. 2, 2022 by Biden’s personal lawyers, CNN reported Jan. 16. Additional Obama-Biden administration records were found Nov. 9 and 10, 2022.

The public was only made aware Jan. 9 after speculation enveloped the administration, according to CNN. That same day, the FBI and the Justice Department opened an investigation. Additional documents were found Dec. 20, 2022, in Biden’s garage at the president's Wilmington home.

The Department of Justice said it has declined to have the FBI monitor the search for more documents, in part because the administration has fully cooperated with the investigation thus far, ABC News reported. The president’s personal lawyers will continue the search for additional classified documents, turning them over to authorities.
