The U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management leased two parcels in Millard County, Utah, through a geothermal lease sale for renewable energy development.
The two leased parcels cover approximately 3,045 acres in public lands that the Fishlake National Forest administers, a news release said. Utah, Millard County and the U.S. Department of the Treasury will share the $197,558 generated by the sale.
“BLM Utah is committed to processing applications and leases for generating renewable energy on public lands, which provides jobs and generates clean electricity for our homes,” Bureau of Land Management Fillmore Field Manager Cindy Ledbetter said in the release.
Ledbetter became field manager in October 2021 after being acting field manager, according to an October 2021 statement.
Geothermal energy is renewable energy taken from heat sources within the earth that can generate “electricity with minimal carbon emissions up to 24 hours per day,” the release said.
“We will continue to work closely with our partners, Tribal Nations, communities and local governments to ensure any energy development maximizes efficiencies and minimizes environmental impacts for the benefit of current and future generations,” Ledbetter said in the release.
Five registered bidders bid for the two parcels in Millard County, Utah, sale results said. The high bid per parcel was $160,390.
