Visit One of Our Interpretive Centers Today!

Whether you’re craving a nature fix on a hiking trail or longing for an escape into history, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Legacy Management (LM) interpretive centers offer something for everyone. Learn about U.S. nuclear history, environmental cleanup, and explore the natural world outside the centers’ doors.

Spend a day with us exploring one of LM’s three interpretive and visitor centers.

Weldon Spring Site Disposal Cell

Climb the staircase to the top of the 75-feet-high disposal cell at the Weldon Spring Site for a panoramic view of St. Charles and St. Louis counties in Missouri.

Our staff-led engaging tours tell the story of each site’s past, present, and future; and our educational programs are thought-provoking and fun! Interact with exhibits, study historical objects, and ponder timeless photographs. You’ll experience U.S. history through the eyes of the people who lived and worked across each area, preserving their place in our nation’s story. You’ll see the rewards environmental remediation brings to the sites, where wilderness and wildlife now thrive.

All three LM interpretive centers offer activities for you and your family to enjoy year-round. Let the little ones play in the Weldon Spring Site Interpretive Center Kids’ Exploration Corner, jump into a STEM program lead by an interpretive specialist, or explore the Howell Prairie. Adults and children can take a guided sunset walk to the top of the 41-acre disposal cell or practice bird calls in a weekend birding event.
