Granholm: DOE seeks 'reliable energy infrastructure that harvests abundant American-grown clean energy'

A recent visit to Arizona by U.S. officials commemorated the groundbreaking of a low-cost electricity project for central Arizona and southern California.

U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm was joined by Vice President Kamala Harris and Interior Secretary Deb Haaland Jan. 19-20 for the groundbreaking of the Ten West Link transmission project, according to a Feb. 14 news release. The trip highlighted the Biden-Harris administration's "commitment to building a clean energy economy on American soil, with American workers."

"Today's announcement showcases the exciting potential of building reliable energy infrastructure that harvests abundant American-grown clean energy," Granholm said. "The Biden-Harris administration is determined to create good-paying, unions jobs while addressing climate change head-on — and we’ll continue to see projects like Ten West being made in every pocket of the nation for years to come."

Other stops included a visit to the Western Area Power Administration's Desert Southwest Region and to a recently weatherized home in Phoenix funded by a DOE energy retrofit program, the release reported. Granholm toured its dispatch center and talked about the importance of securing America's power grid.

"It is inspiring to see the impact of these programs firsthand," Granholm said in the news release. "They not only make homes healthier and more energy efficient, but also help save families money on their energy bills."

She also visited a recently weatherized home Phoenix home where Granholm talked about the Biden administration's investments in energy retrofit programs and commitment to modernizing and improving the nation's energy infrastructure while promoting energy efficiency and affordability, the release reported.
