Fire crews from the Bureau of Land Management will be burning piles of branches and brush on public lands in the Cloverdale area of west Redding beginning Thursday, February 23, and continuing through Friday, March 3. Smoke will be visible from the communities of Igo and Ono, and from the Platina Union Elementary School.
The burning will involve vegetation piles built during projects to reduce hazardous fuels, improving fire resiliency of the area and reducing the probability of a wildfire spreading into the tree canopy where it would grow rapidly. The projects are also designed to improve scenic quality of the BLM-managed public lands.
The piles will be ignited only when weather and fuel conditions allow for safe and successful burning, and in accordance with a burn plan that specifies allowable conditions and the required personnel and equipment.
