Media Note: United States Mission to the United Nations to Host a UN Security Council Arria-Formula Meeting on the Human Rights Situation in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea
The United States Mission to the United Nations will host an Arria-formula meeting on the human rights situation in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Friday, March 17 at 10:00 a.m. ET. This meeting will be co-hosted by the Permanent Mission of Albania to the UN and co-sponsored by the Permanent Missions of Japan and the Republic of Korea. The meeting is intended to shed a light on the DPRK’s ongoing human rights violations and abuses, underscore how they are directly linked with the threats to international peace and security posed by the DPRK’s unlawful WMD and ballistic missile programs, and identify opportunities for the international community to promote the human rights and dignity of North Koreans.
Last month, the United States and 61 other signatories – twice as many as 2022 – sent a letter to the UN Security Council requesting the Council remain seized with the human rights situation in the DPRK.
