Washington, D.C. - July 9, 2019. USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is issuing a record of decision for the final environmental impact statement (EIS) for the Cooperative Fruit Fly Program. In this decision, APHIS selects an integrated pest management approach to managing fruit flies. This option includes various chemical and nonchemical methods that may be used based on site-specific conditions during an outbreak. The Cooperative Fruit Fly Program protects the health and value of American agricultural resources by preventing exotic fruit fly populations from establishing in the United States. Under the program, APHIS and State agriculture officials use the latest technology and science to detect and eradicate non-native fruit flies.
