Mobile District Mentorship Program

This year, leadership from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District will focus on both personal and professional development through the 12-month Mobile District Mentorship Program.

The Mobile District has established the MDMP to invest in employees that have the ability, skill, and desire to grow. The vision for the program is to enhance professional relationships and encourage both personal and professional growth.

Ultimately, the program will maximize the human capital resources available to Mobile District and contribute to continued mission success by removing barriers to career progression within the organization, developing a culture of mentorship, and encouraging Mobile District’s future leaders.

“I hope to use what I learn to become a leader and develop stronger relationships with the people in Mobile District,” says Sterling McInvale, Human Resources Specialist, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District CPAC. “I wanted to become a mentee to have someone outside of my field help develop my leadership skills.”

This is the MDMP’s pilot year and consists of 20 mentor/mentee pairs. The program is open to all Mobile district employees, to include field offices, and is looking to expand the number of pairs established.

“We felt this would benefit the district, in building bridges between field personnel and district personnel. Mobile District has a large footprint, at times those areas, field and district can be disconnected” said Josephine Bochiechio-Pace, Construction Control Representative, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District.

At the beginning of the program, the mentors and mentees will come up with a plan for the year regarding goals and objectives that they want to achieve. Though there is no concrete schedule set for the participants other than they will meet at least once a month and as many times their schedules allow.

When asked what she hopes everyone gets out from participating in the mentorship program, MDMP committee member Bochienchio-Pace said personal satisfaction, knowledge, guidance, and networking are at the top of her list.
