An Alaska man has been sentenced to 10 years and 5 months in prison, followed by eight years of supervised release, for the distribution of heroin.
Jason "Snoop" McAnulty, 40, of Anchorage, reportedly distributed roughly 126 grams of heroin to a law enforcement source during two undercover operations in June 2020, earning himself $6,300, according to an April 24 news release.
“Dangerous opiates such as heroin pose an ongoing threat to communities throughout Alaska. This sentence serves as a reminder that we will prosecute and hold accountable those who are harming our communities, and with our law enforcement partners, will persist in our disruption of heroin trafficking operations in this district,” Attorney S. Lane Tucker said in the release.
When authorities learned McAnulty was a heroin supplier in the Anchorage area, they started investigating. Law enforcement officers carried out a search warrant at McAnulty's home in July 2020 and discovered more than $34,000 in cash along with other illegal distribution materials, the release reported.
After a five-day trial in March 2022, an Alaskan jury found McAnulty guilty of distributing heroin, the release said.
McAnulty has a lengthy and violent criminal past, having been previously found guilty of first-degree robbery, a felony that carries a minimum 10-year jail sentence, in 2004. He also has a 2015 federal conviction for attempting to tamper with witnesses in another federal criminal trial, according to the release.
“McAnulty supported the opioid and heroin epidemic through his illegal drug distribution activities, posing a significant threat to communities in Alaska,” FBI Ancorage Special Agent in Charge Antony Jung said in the release. "The FBI and the Anchorage Police Department will continue working together to hold drug traffickers accountable, and to stop the flow of deadly drugs into our communities."
This sentencing serves as a reminder law enforcement agencies are committed to fighting drug trafficking operations in Alaska, and those who profit from the distribution of illegal drugs will face severe consequences, the release reported.
