Los Alamos National Laboratory operator Triad National Security is providing $2.5 million in grant funding to boost economic diversity, education and community giving.
Triad, a public service-oriented organization, is owned by three founding members Battelle Memorial Institute, Texas A&M University System and University of California, according to a May 1 LANL news release.
"This funding underlines Triad's continuing commitment to improve the well-being of communities in Northern New Mexico through partnerships and investments," Triad President and CEO Thom Mason said in the news release. "Since 2018, Triad has invested $12 million through its Community Commitment Plan to enhance the impact of the Laboratory’s own community work in education, economic diversity and community giving, and to support Laboratory employees’ culture of service.”
Triad's grant funding has been earmarked for three key long-term partners: Los Alamos National Laboratory Foundation for its STEM education, scholarships and teacher support; Regional Development Corporation to support economic diversity, including an internship program and awards for small businesses; and United Way of Northern New Mexico to support nonprofit collaboration and capacity-building and address substance abuse issues, the release reported.
Other organizations also are expected to receive a share of the grant funds, including a small portion for grant administration and other money to match employee's nonprofit-giving in Northern New Mexico, the release said.
"Triad's investment will fund a full range of grassroots economic development activities across Northern New Mexico, including grants for rural and Tribal member-owned businesses and no-interest loans to high-growth technology and manufacturing businesses," Regional Development Corporation Executive Director Val Alonzo said in the release. "Triad's support also allows us to provide in-person technical support, training and informational events to small businesses allowing them to grow, add jobs and contribute to the region’s economy."
According to the release, Triad shared funds with more than 70 nonprofits across Northern New Mexico in 2022.
