The U.S. Chamber of Commerce played host to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the inaugural visit to push forward a U.S.-Bangladesh commercial partnership.
The Chamber of Commerce's U.S.-Bangladesh Business Council (USBBC) hosted a roundtable known as "U.S.-Bangladesh Economic Cooperation" with Hasina. She emphasized the high importance of the commercial partnership between the two nations, highlighting their engagements in trade and investment.
Hasina also praised Bangladesh as a role model for socio-economic development, mentioning achievements in good governance, female empowerment, as well as digitalization.
“The U.S.-Bangladesh Business Council, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Hasina in 2021, has a growing roster of 40 members across a diverse range of critical sectors," said Suzanne P. Clark, president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber in a news release. "As part of its efforts to promote free enterprise and rules-based trade around the world, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is expanding its engagement in Bangladesh and across the Indo-Pacific.”
Ambassador Atul Keshap, president of the U.S.-Bangladesh Business Council, highlighted Bangladesh's economic performance and its path to becoming a trillion-dollar economy, while also drawing attention to employment, gender inclusion, and environmental sustainability. Keshap also applauded its human development in the nation.
Steven Kobos, chair of the USBBC board of directors, recognized the efforts of the Bangladeshi government in raising living standards, achieving electrification, and showcasing the regional leadership in climate resiliency.
The U.S.-Bangladesh Business Council serves as a platform to build up bilateral trade and investment ties, advocate for policy transparency and business reforms, and provide support to members on strategic advisory, market-entry and business-to-government opportunities.
