This week, Linda Moore, TechNet CEO and President issued a press release remarking that tightening the reins on mergers and acquisitions could actually decrease American competitiveness. Her remarks, found in a July 19th press release from TechNet, are a response to a proposed update to Merger and Acquisition guidelines.

“This will have devastating and unintended consequences on our global competitiveness and national security. Instead, we must ensure that investment remains in this country by advancing policies that embrace and encourage startups, promote competition and reduce unnecessary barriers to mergers and acquisitions, and help us win the next era of innovation,” TechNet CEO and President Linda Moore said.

According to a report issued by Federal Newswire on July 19, the Department of Justice (DOJ) along with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced the release of a preliminary version of updated Merger Guidelines. These guidelines, says the article, show how these entities evaluate mergers and acquisitions to ensure compliance with antitrust regulations. The objective of the update is to align the guidelines with the current state of the economy. The article states that both organizations are encouraging the public to review the revised guidelines and share their opinions during a 60-day period of public commentary.

According to a recent press release from TechNet, Linda Moore, their president and CEO, has expressed her opinion in a statement that the guidelines could pose a threat to our domestic economy. She makes the point that small businesses often view the potential for being acquired as an incentive to start businesses, and that therefore, restraining acquisitions could discourage entrepreneurs or lead them to move out of the United States in search of better prospects.

According to her page on the TechNet website, Linda Moore, a senior strategist with extensive experience in politics and advocacy, currently serves as TechNet’s President and CEO. She is known for her powerful advocacy for the tech industry and has a strong background in “moderate Democratic politics”. She, in addition to various advisory positions and political appointments, frequently lectures on subjects such as U.S. politics and tech policy, the page says. Linda is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and has an advisory role at the University’s “Annette Strauss Institute”.
