Jagwe: 'OpenUSD makes it so much easier to transport all the textures and characters together in one place for animation'

Reallusion recently released an update to the iClone Omniverse Connector, a software used by creators and developers to enhance their workflows in 3D character animation and digitalization.

The upgrade enables seamless collaboration with NVIDIA Omniverse, a platform for building OpenUSD-based tools, offering real-time synchronization and improved import functionality, ultimately benefiting artists like Solomon Jagwe who employ Reallusion iClone and Omniverse for their creative work, according to an Aug. 16 NVIDIA blog post.

"With the iClone Connector for Omniverse, I can easily render my iClone animations in Omniverse and take advantage of the iClone animation tools in combination with the Omniverse Audio2Face generative AI capabilities," Jagwe said in the post. "OpenUSD makes it so much easier to transport all the textures and characters together in one place for animation."

The latest update to the iClone Omniverse Connector presents an array of fresh opportunities to enhance workflows, the blog reported. This upgrade introduces a harmonious synergy and amplifies the realm of creative prospects for those harnessing NVIDIA Omniverse, a dynamic platform devised for the interconnection and construction of OpenUSD-oriented tools and applications.

Innovative features encompass instantaneous synchronization of projects, along with an enriched import mechanism for the Universal Scene Description framework, commonly referred to as OpenUSD, the blog post said. The synergy between iClone and Omniverse has been markedly enhanced, culminating in a swifter, more seamless and highly efficient collaboration.

The update is also accompanied by an assortment of bug rectifications and refinements. Reallusion's iClone, renowned as a real-time 3D animation software, is being embraced by creators globally as they breathe life into their characters, according to the blog.

A testament to this fusion of technologies is Solomon Jagwe, a distinguished 3D artist, animator and laureled film director. His creative tapestry often revolves around environmental narratives. Growing up in East Africa, Jagwe reminisces about his childhood, where he and his brother would sketch the creatures encountered during their countryside explorations, the blog said. Even today, a substantial portion of Jagwe's 3D ventures is ignited by rudimentary sketches crafted with pen and paper.

Jagwe, driven by a relentless pursuit to foster impactful artistry, stands as a prime exemple. His undertaking titled "Adventures of Nkoza and Nankya" exemplifies his commitment, the blog post reported. This video series serves as an educational conduit, unraveling the intricacies of Ugandan culture across diverse age groups.

He deftly molds the series' sets within Autodesk 3ds Max and Autodesk Maya, while animation takes shape within Reallusion's iClone and final composition resides in Omniverse. The advent of the iClone Connector for Omniverse has significantly streamlined Jagwe's workflow, allowing for seamless rendering of iClone animations within Omniverse, according to the blog.

Furthermore, he artfully leverages iClone's animation arsenal in conjunction with Omniverse's Audio2Face generative AI capabilities. Jagwe's creative pipeline attains rapid acceleration through the utilization of USD, a lingua franca that harmonizes disparate 3D applications and facilitates the seamless exchange of entire scenes across various content creation tools, the blog post said.
