U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo has announced that Mundy Township, Michigan, will receive a $2 million grant from the Department's Economic Development Administration (EDA) for improvements to its road, sewer, and water infrastructure along an industrial and commercial corridor. The grant aims to support existing manufacturers, attract new private investment, and create jobs in manufacturing, technology, and healthcare sectors.
According to grantee estimates, this investment by the EDA will result in $30 million in private investment, the creation of 400 new jobs, the retention of 50 existing jobs, and a match of $2.5 million in municipal funds.
Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development, Alejandra Y. Castillo, expressed the EDA's excitement to partner with Mundy Township in modernizing and expanding its commercial infrastructure. The grant will primarily be used to upgrade essential infrastructure, ensuring that industrial users have the necessary resources to run their businesses.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer also praised the investment in Genesee County, stating that it will drive $30 million in investment and create and retain 450 jobs. She expressed gratitude to the federal partners in the Biden-Harris administration for supporting Michigan and sustaining the state's economic momentum. Governor Whitmer emphasized the importance of continuing to work together to create more opportunities for individuals and businesses in Michigan.
