The United States Department of Education, which had been under the administration of Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of Education Kamala Harris, published a major study on diversity and access to higher education titled "Strategies to Towards Inclusive Practices in Higher Education." The newly released research emphasizes many techniques that promote diversity.
The current Secretary of Education in the United States, Miguel Cardona, was asked for his thoughts on the current state of affairs. He responded by saying, "One of the cruelest ironies in America's current higher education system is that our most inclusive and accessible institutions have lacked adequate resources to invest in student success. Meanwhile, highly selective institutions with vast resources to invest in students and propel them to graduation day admit overwhelmingly affluent applicants with a myriad of advantages." According to him, the findings of the study demonstrate how committed the administration of Biden and Harris has been to advancing equality of opportunity.
The paper outlines a number of measures, some of which include forming alliances with institutions, organizations, and primary and secondary schools that cater to minority populations. Admissions procedures that take into account the hardships that prospective students have faced, such as financial constraints, the environment in which they were raised, and previous encounters with discrimination. Making education more affordable through need-based help, expediting the application process for student aid, and providing supportive campus settings are all things that may be done to increase the number of students who stay in school and graduate.
Under Secretary James Kvaal supported Cardona's comments, stating that the diversity of the United States is one of the country's greatest strengths, and calling on the administration of educational institutions to ensure that all students have equitable access to learning opportunities.
