After more than two years, Tommy Beaudreau has announced he is leaving the Deputy Secretary position at the Department of the Interior. He has been involved with the U.S. Department of the Interior for almost a decade, according to an Oct. 4 press release.

In a statement, Beaudreau expressed his love for the Interior Department and described his time as Deputy Secretary as the "greatest honor and responsibility" of his career. He also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with the dedicated career staff and diverse communities across the United States.

During his tenure as Deputy Secretary, Beaudreau chaired the Law Enforcement Task Force and worked to ensure resilience and security in the department's information systems. He also played a key role in facilitating conservation efforts led by local groups and worked to protect the Colorado River Basin for water sustainability.

In a press release announcing Beaudreau's resignation, Secretary Deb Haaland praised his contributions to the Department of the Interior. She described him as a valued counselor and friend, and stated that his legacy will continue as the department carries on its work to implement President Biden's historic Investing in America agenda and steward public lands and waters for the American people.

Beaudreau's career with the Department of the Interior began in 2010 after the Deepwater Horizon crisis. He held various positions within the department, including the first director of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Acting Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management, and chief of staff under Secretary Sally Jewell. These experiences gave him a deep respect for the work of the department's 70,000 career staff.

As Beaudreau leaves his position, the Department of the Interior will continue its mission to protect and manage the nation's natural resources, public lands, and cultural heritage.
