Southern Oregon Resource Advisory Council to meet in Lakeview, OR

For those who cannot attend in person, the Southern Oregon Resource Advisory Council will provide a way for the public to attend virtually. Public comment is only happening on Tuesday, Oct. 17.

The public is invited to a meeting of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management's Southern Oregon Resource Advisory Council next week. Members of the public are invited to attend and may have time to speak on Oct. 17. The Southern Oregon Resource Advisory Council will provide a way for the public to attend virtually if they cannot attend in person.

According to the news release from the Bureau of Land Management, topics for the meeting include “a regional programmatic aquatic and riparian restoration environmental assessment, rangeland management actions and updates regarding the Lakeview Resource Management Plan Amendment and Southeastern Oregon Resource Management Plan Amendment.” The public comment period will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 17, and individual comments may be limited, based on the number of people who wish to speak.

About the meeting, Shane DeForest, Acting Manager of the Vale District had this to say: “Southeast Oregon RAC members represent the Malheur, Harney and Lake county communities of eastern Oregon. They provide essential feedback on matters of public interest and help to ensure broad perspectives are considered when decisions are made.”

The Southeast Oregon Resource Advisory Council advises the Bureau of Land Management on the BLM’s public lands in Burns and Vale Districts and Lakeview. There are 15 members of this council who represent commodity interests, conservation interests, and community interests, according to the BLM’s page on the Southeast Oregon RAC. Current members have served since 2022 and later, and have terms that end in 2025 and 2026. Categories these positions fall into include energy and mineral development, public-at-large, dispersed recreation, environmental organizations, wild horse and burro, commercial timber, and several elected officials.
