More than half a million individuals visited Yellowstone National Park in September 2023, according to an Oct. 18 news release from the U.S. National Park Service. The park marked 838,458 recreational visits during that month.
Attendance at Yellowstone National Park has been steadily increasing. In September 2021, the park hosted 4,472,687 visitors, and in 2022, there were 3,005,194 visitors through September, despite a closure from June 13 to June 21 due to flooding danger and damage. This year, the park has already seen 4,161,603 recreational visits, a 38% increase from 2022. Compared to 2019, the last year unaffected by COVID-19 and flooding issues, visitation is up 9%.

Yellowstone National Park has a rich history. Although it was established in 1872, the railroad did not reach the park until 1883, making it more accessible for visitors. In 1929, a boundary adjustment was made, just 13 years after the establishment of the National Park Service.
