House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) has issued a subpoena to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, demanding information and documents regarding violent criminal aliens who have been allowed entry into the United States. The subpoena comes as a response to the Biden Administration's open-borders policies, which have raised concerns about public safety and national security.

Since May 2023, the Committee has made multiple requests for A-files, which contain records of criminal aliens charged with serious crimes such as theft, assault, murder, and terrorism-related charges. However, the majority of these requests have remained outstanding for months without any substantial response from DHS. Chairman Jordan expressed his frustration, stating, "In response to the Committee's myriad requests, DHS has merely produced partial summaries for just two A-files, and has acknowledged these limited productions as not responsive to the Committee's requests."

On November 13, 2023, the Committee sent a letter to DHS, reiterating their request for the outstanding A-files and asking for their prompt delivery by November 27. However, DHS has failed to provide any of the requested materials, obstructing the Committee's constitutional oversight duties. Chairman Jordan emphasized, "DHS has hindered the Committee's ability to fulfill its constitutional oversight obligations by refusing to provide the requested information."

In addition to the subpoena, Chairman Jordan, along with Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement Chairman Tom McClintock, and Subcommittee on Responsiveness and Accountability to Oversight Chairman Ben Cline, wrote a letter to Secretary Mayorkas regarding the September 2023 mass illegal alien influx event. During this event, a record-breaking 11,000 illegal aliens were encountered in a single day. The Committee requested information about this incident and reports that DHS officials removed Concertina wire and fencing in Eagle Pass, aiding the illegal aliens in crossing the border. However, the Department has failed to respond adequately to these requests, leaving the Committee with no choice but to consider compulsory process if the outstanding requests are not addressed.

The Committee's actions reflect growing concerns about the Biden Administration's approach to border security and the potential consequences of open-borders policies. Chairman Jordan's subpoena and letters to Secretary Mayorkas highlight the urgency of obtaining information on violent criminal aliens and ensuring that proper measures are in place to protect the American people.
