U.S. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-La.) has released data highlighting the escalating influx of illicit drugs into the United States. In an interview, former Border Patrol agent Brandon Judd expressed that the current policies of the Biden Administration have hindered effective law enforcement at the border.
Editor Emeritus at The Daily Wire, Ben Shapiro stated, "I went to our southern border. It’s wide open. The drug cartels are in control. Joe Biden’s America is broken."
A document from Johnson's website reveals a significant concern about the quantity of illicit drugs entering the country. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2023, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized 549,000 pounds of illicit drugs. Of this total, 27,000 pounds was fentanyl, a lethal substance that could potentially kill every U.S. citizen 18 times over if distributed. This amount represents a significant increase from previous years: 14,700 pounds in FY 2022, 11,200 pounds in FY 2021, and 4,800 pounds in FY 2020.

In a video by Shapiro featuring Judd - who served the Border Patrol for two and a half decades and currently presides over the National Border Patrol Council - Judd voiced his dissatisfaction with the existing system. He argued that current policies promote illegal immigration and have transformed the Border Patrol into more of a welcome committee than an effective law enforcement body.
During his discussion with Shapiro about illegal immigration concerns, Judd said: "Nobody is against legal immigration. I don’t know of a border patrol agent that wants to send a legitimate asylum seeker back to their country... None of us want to send someone back to their country that’s going to get murdered or tortured for their religious affiliation or political beliefs." However, he added: "But we also know that the vast majority of these people do not have a legitimate asylum claim."
Judd further explained that due to the overwhelming number of illegal immigrants, most Border Patrol personnel are forced to spend their time processing those crossing into the United States, rather than effectively safeguarding the border. He stated: "We have given up complete control of this area to the cartels because all of our resources right now are doing administrative duties."
In a recent post by Johnson, he shared a CNN video where President Joe Biden claimed: "I’ve done all I can do" in terms of sealing the border with executive authority. In response, Johnson said: "That is simply untrue. He’s either lying or misinformed... No more excuses."
