Port Director Alberto Flores on CBP officers: 'Seized millions worth in alleged methamphetamine, an addictive synthetic stimulant that causes a significant number of deaths nationwide'

Alberto Flores, the Port Director at the Laredo Port of Entry, announced that officers from U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) intercepted a significant shipment of methamphetamine at the border. The officers discovered 1,033.96 pounds of alleged methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $9,507,568.

"Officers in the cargo environment interdicted and seized millions worth in alleged methamphetamine, an addictive synthetic stimulant that causes a significant number of deaths nationwide", said Alberto Flores, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. "CBP remains committed to its border security mission while effectively facilitating lawful trade and travel."

A press release from CBP provides further details about the operation. On February 6th at the World Trade Bridge, during a detailed inspection, CBP officers intercepted a 2004 Freightliner truck equipped with a refrigerated utility trailer purportedly carrying a commercial load of roses. The release stated that with the help of a drug-sniffing dog and inspection technology, officers uncovered "1,033.96 pounds of alleged methamphetamine" concealed within the shipment. According to the release, the seized narcotics have an estimated street value of approximately $9.5 million. The drugs were confiscated by CBP and are currently under investigation by special agents from Homeland Security Investigations.

As described on its official website, CBP is an international law enforcement organization employing over 60,000 personnel worldwide. Its primary mission is to protect America from terrorism while facilitating trade and travel. The organization integrates various functions such as immigration enforcement, customs regulation, agricultural protection and border security into one comprehensive effort.

The CBP also provided some background information on Flores in their press release. With over 24 years in federal service, Flores has extensive experience overseeing border operations at the Laredo Field Office and managing over 1000 employees. His career began in 1997 with U.S. Customs where he held various leadership roles and gained experience in "passenger and cargo operations." A native of Laredo, Texas and an alumnus of Texas A&M International University, Flores continues to serve his community through his role at CBP.
