Border Patrol Chief Owens: 'Agents along the Southwest Border apprehended six felony sex offenders'

Over the weekend, Border Patrol agents arrested six felony offenders, as revealed by Chief Jason Owens on X. This announcement followed closely on the heels of a significant narcotics seizure near Amado, Arizona, according to a news release from Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

"This weekend, USBP agents along the SWB apprehended 6 felony sex offenders", said Jason Owens, according to X. "Their criminal history: • Statutory Rape. • Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse of a minor. • Aggravated Sex Assault Child. • Lewd & Lascivious acts w/a minor under 14. • Abusive Sexual Conduct & Contact."

The CBP reported that a Nogales Station Border Patrol agent and his K9 partner discovered the drugs on October 5th during an inspection of four abandoned duffel bags near the Interstate 19 immigration checkpoint. A subsequent test revealed that the bags contained 71 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $63,796 and 63.3 pounds of fentanyl valued at approximately $416,150.

Tucson Sector Chief Patrol Agent John R. Modlin said about the seizure: "This narcotics seizure is significant. It not only demonstrates the hard work of this dedicated canine team but also illustrates the need for our agents to be in the field, doing what they do best. In this case, that’s keeping dangerous drugs from reaching our nation’s communities."

Later in October, according to another CBP news release, agents operating at the Interstate 19 immigration checkpoint apprehended a 33-year-old woman who was smuggling 53 pounds of fentanyl hidden within her white Ford F150 pickup truck. The concealed compartment in the bed of her vehicle contained several packets of blue pills. Both the suspect and seized narcotics were handed over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation and potential prosecution related to her drug smuggling attempt.
