A migrant's life was saved by Border Patrol agents, as revealed in a social media post by Chief Jason Owens.

"2/12: USBP agents in Imperial Beach, CA rescued an undocumented subject who collapsed and went into cardiac arrest during the encounter. The subject is alive today thanks to the agents' CPR life-saving measures", said Jason Owens, according to X.

Chief Patrol Agent Patricia D. McGurk-Daniel stated that the United States Border Patrol is responsible for rescuing more migrants annually than any other organization. She shared an incident where a BORSTAR operator carried an injured migrant 300 meters up a steep hill near Otay Lakes Dam. The woman, unable to walk, had to be evacuated to a safe location before being transported to the hospital.

This information follows the tragic death of a woman who fell ill near the San Ysidro Port of Entry on Oct. 11, 2023, as reported in a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) news release. The report details how Border Patrol agents from the Imperial Beach Station observed a group of undocumented migrants entering the United States through the Tijuana River channel while fleeing from Mexican federal officials.

The CBP news release further explained that agents encountered over 100 illegal aliens near the International Border Fence and began sorting them into smaller groups for processing. However, before this could begin, they found an undocumented woman from Guinea lying on the ground. Accompanied by her male cousin, also from Guinea, both insisted that she did not need medical assistance and was merely "tired" from running.

Approximately five minutes later, according to the news release, an agent noticed that the woman had a blank stare and immediately radioed for medical assistance. When no pulse was detected, chest compressions were performed on her until the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department (SDFD) EMS arrived about 20 minutes later. Despite their efforts at CPR and transferring her to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Chula Vista, she was pronounced dead.
