U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas was part of President Joe Biden’s team that recently toured the border in Brownsville, Texas. Following the tour, Mayorkas took to social media and posted a series of tweets urging Congress to pass legislation he believes will assist in reducing the influx of migrants into America.

"Every day, the men and women of @DHSgov dedicate themselves to securing our border, enforcing our laws, dismantling cartels, combatting fentanyl, and much more. Today in Brownsville, TX, @POTUS and I saw firsthand—once again—their talent, dedication, and heroism," said N. Mayorkas, according to X. "In Texas, @POTUS and I toured the border and received an operational briefing from @CBP, @ICEgov, and @USCIS — we discussed the challenge of irregular global migration, and the work we and o. Our frontline border security agents and officers made clear: they desperately need more personnel, facilities, and technology to strengthen our security and enforce our laws quickly and effectively. Only Congress can provide these critical resources. Our workforce does so much with so much less than what they need & deserve. @POTUS and I are fighting to get them more help. In Brownsville, we again called on Congress to pass bipartisan legislation, fix the broken immigration system, & send badly-needed resources to our team."

After being briefed on the immigration situation by Border Patrol officials, President Biden issued a statement regarding the situation, according to a White House press release. In this statement, he expressed gratitude towards Mayorkas for accompanying him. They were joined by the four county commissioners of the Rio Grande Valley, local officials and state representatives from the area they were visiting in Texas.

Biden stated, "I just received a briefing from the Border Patrol at the border as well as immigration and enforcement and asylum officers. And they’re all doing incredible work under really tough conditions — really tough conditions." He continued, "They each told me what they re- — what — what you already know and we already know: They desperately need more resources. I’ll say it again: They desperately need more resources. They need more agents, more officers, more judges, more equipment in order to secure our border."
