The residents of Gaza have received humanitarian aid, as stated in a social media post by U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III on platform X. The assistance involved the U.S. military conducting an airdrop of food supplies in Gaza.

According to a press release from the U.S. Central Command, the airdrop operation took place on March 2 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time and was carried out in collaboration with the Royal Jordanian Air Force. The initiative was planned with the intention of providing sustenance to individuals affected by the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The press release further detailed that over 38,000 meals were delivered by the U.S. Air Force and Royal Jordanian Air Force C-130 aircraft. Army soldiers, trained in aerial supply delivery, prepared 66 bundles and dropped them along Gaza's coastline. Officials are also contemplating extending further aid through land routes.

A DOD news release cites President Joe Biden's statement last week about America commencing aid delivery as civilians in Gaza confront severe food shortages.

"Innocent lives are on the line and children's lives are on the line, and we won't stand by until we get more aid in there," said President Biden during his remarks ahead of his meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the White House. As the conflict continues to intensify, Biden added that America would "pull out every stop we can to get more assistance in."
