Washington, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) and U.S. Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), Chair and Vice Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee respectively, issued a joint statement regarding the release of the final bipartisan package of fiscal year 2024 appropriations bills.
"These final six bills represent a bipartisan and bicameral compromise—they will invest in the American people, build a stronger economy, help keep our communities safe, and strengthen our national security and global leadership," stated Senator Patty Murray.
Senator Susan Collins added, "We said from the very beginning that if we all work together in a reasonable, bipartisan way, we can fund the government responsibly."
Murray emphasized the importance of passing full-year funding bills that address the current challenges faced domestically and internationally, stating, "Passing full-year funding bills that meet the current challenges we face at home and abroad is critical, and anything less is an abdication of our responsibilities. Let’s get this done."
The bipartisan effort led by Senators Murray and Collins aims to benefit every state in America and reflect the important priorities of many Senators. The Senators urged their colleagues in Congress to swiftly pass the six bills to avoid any potential government shutdown or chaos.
