The Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) has announced the election of Lucas White, president of The Fountain Trust Co. in Covington, Ind., as its chairman. White will serve for the 2024-2025 term, commencing his role on March 17.

According to an ICBA press release, White is already actively involved in several leadership roles within the organization. He serves as chairman of the ICBA Executive Committee and Board of Directors and is a member of ICBA’s Federal Delegate Board and the Policy Development and Nominating committees. Furthermore, he holds membership and has formerly chaired the Indiana Bankers Association.

During a live address at the ICBA LIVE national convention in Orlando on March 17, White said, "We have the best banking model in the world right here, but every day, we face new challenges." He emphasized the importance of educating Congress members about community banking operations: "Educating members of Congress about what we do as community bankers, why we do it, and how we do it—is critical to creating and promoting an environment where community banks flourish. I firmly believe we have an obligation to our shareholders, our employees, our customers and our families to lobby for our community banks and the welfare of our communities."

The press release also highlighted White's dedication to his local community. In addition to his banking responsibilities, he is a partner at White & White Attorneys LLP, a trustee of the Booe Inlow d’Arlier Charitable Foundation, a member of the West Central Regional Community Corrections Board, and a member of the Covington Business Association.

ICBA Immediate Past Chairman Derek Williams lauded White's commitment to community banking. Williams said in the press release: "Lucas is one of community banking’s biggest advocates and a faithful steward of his community. His leadership and visionary approach are poised to make a lasting and positive impact on our industry."
