CCIA Testifies On California Tech Bills Wednesday

Sacramento, Calif. – The Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA) will be presenting their stance on California's tech bills in a hearing scheduled for Wednesday. CCIA State Policy Director Khara Boender will be testifying on behalf of CCIA regarding three bills, advocating for certain amendments while opposing one.

CCIA supports AB 2839 and AB 2355, with Boender emphasizing the importance of addressing potential risks associated with generative artificial intelligence. Regarding these bills, Boender stated, "While we recognize the urgent need to implement policies protecting the integrity of elections, it is crucial to carefully consider the numerous challenges posed by AB 2655."

However, CCIA opposes AB 2655 due to concerns about its practicality and impact on online platforms. Boender highlighted that the bill's focus on platforms rather than individuals distributing deceptive content may limit its effectiveness in combating election misinformation. She emphasized the necessity of holding those directly responsible for spreading misleading information accountable.

In conclusion, CCIA is urging lawmakers to consider the implications of each bill thoroughly. Boender emphasized the importance of creating liability measures for individuals involved in disseminating harmful content to prevent the continuous spread of misinformation online.
