The National Retail Federation today announced the promotion of David French from senior vice president to executive vice president of government relations and executive director of the National Council of Chain Restaurants. In a statement, NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay praised French, saying, “As NRF’s chief lobbyist, David is a great partner of many years who has done an incredible job with public policy efforts that support retailers and the millions of people they employ and the communities they serve.”
French has been with NRF since 2011 and has been instrumental in leading the organization’s advocacy strategy to advance the retail industry’s legislative priorities. Shay highlighted French's extensive knowledge of retail's impact on the economy and businesses of all sizes across the country, noting that he is recognized by members of Congress, administration officials, and industry influencers.
French's leadership has been crucial in various legislative battles affecting the retail industry, including issues such as swipe fee reform, organized retail crime, internet sales tax, patents, labor policy, tax reform, and trade policy. Under his guidance, NRF successfully advocated for the preservation of the corporate tax rate and the passage of significant acts such as the INFORM Consumers Act, the Ocean Shipping Reform Act, and the Postal Service Reform Act.
NRF, as the leading authority and voice for the retail industry, will continue to benefit from French's expertise as he takes on the role of executive vice president of government relations and executive director of the National Council of Chain Restaurants.
About NRF, the organization passionately advocates for the people, brands, policies, and ideas that help retail succeed. Retail is a significant contributor to the nation's economy, being the largest private-sector employer and supporting over 55 million working Americans. NRF has been a longstanding advocate for the retail industry, emphasizing its impact on local communities and global economies.
