WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 18, 2024) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) has voiced its strong support for legislation aimed at preventing an electric vehicle (EV) mandate that could impact small businesses. NFIB's Senior Vice President for Advocacy, Adam Temple, emphasized the importance of allowing businesses and consumers to make their own choices, stating, "Small business owners believe that businesses and consumers should be free to make their own decisions on which vehicle works best for their needs and operations."
Temple further explained the implications of the legislation, saying, "This legislation would stop an EV mandate that would limit choices and increase costs at a time when small businesses can’t afford it. In particular, the mandate would have a significant effect on small businesses that rely on trucks and vans for work such as farmers and contractors." NFIB is urging Congress to take action and pass the bill to prevent what they see as an unreasonable regulation on Main Street.
NFIB also highlighted the overwhelming support for the cause among its members, with an NFIB announcement stating, "In a recent NFIB member ballot, 96% of NFIB members believe that the federal government should not restrict the purchase of consumer products like new gas-powered vehicles."
The legislation, known as S. 4072, is a key focus for NFIB in the 118th Congress, as it aims to safeguard small businesses from potential limitations and increased costs associated with an EV mandate.
