Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III has expressed his condolences following the tragic death of Kenya's Chief of Defence Forces, General Francis Ogolla. In a statement, Secretary Austin said, "On behalf of the Department of Defense, I send my deepest condolences to the people of Kenya and the Kenya Defence Forces on the tragic death of Kenya’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Francis Ogolla."
He also acknowledged the loss of other individuals in the accident, stating, "We also mourn the loss of his teammates who died Thursday when their military helicopter crashed."
Highlighting the strong partnership between the United States and Kenya, Secretary Austin mentioned, "Kenya is a stalwart partner of the United States and the Department." He further reflected on the significance of this partnership from his personal experience, recalling, "I saw the importance of our partnership firsthand in my visit to Kenya last September when I met with General Ogolla and other Kenyan leaders in Nairobi."
General Francis Ogolla's passing has deeply affected many, with Secretary Austin noting, "He will be greatly missed, and his family will be in my prayers." The Department of Defense stands in solidarity with the people of Kenya and the Kenya Defence Forces during this difficult time.
