Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Energy Resources Geoffrey R. Pyatt is gearing up to head to Houston for the 10th United States – Republic of Korea (ROK) Energy Security Dialogue (ESD) and engagements at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy. The dialogue aims to boost collaboration between the U.S. and ROK on energy security and the clean energy transition.

Pyatt's schedule includes engaging in discussions with energy experts and senior U.S. officials at Rice University’s Baker Institute, alongside Ambassador Kathleen Stephens, a Texas native and former U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Korea. Additionally, he will lead a roundtable on Women in Energy and participate in a fireside chat with students from Rice and the University of Houston.

During the U.S.-ROK ESD on April 30 and May 1, Pyatt will head the U.S. delegation, comprising representatives from the Department of State, Department of Energy, and the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation. The Republic of Korea's delegation will be led by Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs Hee-sang Kim and include officials from various Korean diplomatic entities.

The discussions at the event will cover a wide range of energy security and transition priorities, including decarbonization efforts, clean energy cooperation, critical mineral supply chain security, American LNG exports, and private sector involvement in climate change mitigation. The agenda will also address the urgent need to support Ukraine's energy infrastructure amidst escalating Russian attacks.

In a first-time move, both the U.S. and ROK delegations will partake in public-private roundtables with senior executives and finance professionals to explore how government policies can expedite investment in critical mineral supply chains, offshore wind deployment, and the clean hydrogen sector.
