Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo met with Kenyan President William Ruto to underscore the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to partnering with Kenya to deepen bilateral trade and investment ties.

During the meeting, Secretary Raimondo praised President Ruto's efforts to enhance Kenya's business environment and attract more U.S. investment, stating, "The Secretary acknowledged the significant efforts that President Ruto’s Administration has made to improve Kenya’s business environment and attract increased U.S. investment in the country."

Additionally, Secretary Raimondo commended President Ruto for Kenya's leadership in business and policy innovation across the continent, saying, "Secretary Raimondo also congratulated President Ruto for Kenya’s leadership across the continent on business and policy innovation."

The discussions between the two leaders focused on opportunities to enhance collaboration between the U.S. and Kenya in areas such as digital policy and artificial intelligence. Secretary Raimondo highlighted the importance of promoting convergence in these areas, stating, "The two discussed opportunities to increase U.S.-Kenya collaboration to promote convergence in digital policy and greater alignment on their countries’ respective approaches to artificial intelligence."

Moreover, both the Secretary and President identified significant opportunities for cooperation in the green energy and clean technology sectors, recognizing Kenya's leadership in these areas. Secretary Raimondo emphasized the potential for collaboration, stating, "Secretary and President identified important opportunities for collaboration in the green energy and clean technology sectors, of which Kenya is a continental leader."

As the meeting concluded, Secretary Raimondo expressed anticipation for President Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto's upcoming State Visit hosted by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, stating, "Secretary Raimondo shared that she looks forward to President Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto’s State Visit hosted by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden next month."
