Deputy Secretary Kurt M. Campbell is set to embark on a diplomatic journey to Abuja, Nigeria; London, United Kingdom; and Paris, France from April 29 to May 3, 2024.
In Abuja, Deputy Secretary Campbell will engage in discussions centered around partnerships; security cooperation; shared prosperity; democracy, governance, and accountability with Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar during the sixth U.S.-Nigeria Binational Commission (BNC). The agenda will also involve meetings with senior Nigerian government officials, business leaders, and civil society representatives. As stated, "He will also meet with senior Nigerian government officials, business leaders, and civil society representatives."
Moving on to London, the Deputy Secretary will focus on bilateral meetings concerning the Indo-Pacific and the AUKUS trilateral security partnership. Additionally, discussions will revolve around continued support for Ukraine, ceasefire efforts in Gaza, and addressing the humanitarian crisis. The Deputy Secretary will also engage with UK counterparts to address these pressing matters as stated, "the Deputy Secretary will participate in bilateral meetings on the Indo-Pacific and the AUKUS trilateral security partnership." Furthermore, "He will also meet with UK counterparts to discuss continued support for Ukraine, as well as efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza in conjunction with the release of hostages, and address the dire humanitarian situation."
In Paris, the Deputy Secretary will be in attendance at the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM), focusing on sustainable and inclusive growth under the theme, "Co-creating the Flow of Change: Leading Global Discussions with Objective and Reliable Approaches Toward Sustainable and Inclusive Growth." Apart from the OECD engagements, discussions with French counterparts will center around topics such as support for Ukraine, the PRC’s support for Russia’s war against Ukraine, and an Indo-Pacific dialogue. This was highlighted as, "In addition to his meetings at the OECD, the Deputy Secretary will meet with French counterparts on support for Ukraine, the PRC’s support for Russia’s war against Ukraine, and an Indo-Pacific dialogue."
