Negotiations between the United States and Ukraine regarding a bilateral security agreement are ongoing, following the passage of the President's supplemental funding request. Representatives from key U.S. government agencies, including the Department of State, Department of Defense, and National Security Council, engaged in discussions with Ukrainian counterparts to advance critical security arrangements.
The talks aim to solidify long-term bilateral security commitments and uphold other obligations outlined in the G7 Joint Declaration of Support to Ukraine, which was introduced in Vilnius last July. Emphasizing the importance of these negotiations, the United States expressed its pride in supporting Ukraine's efforts to enhance its current and future defense capabilities. Additionally, the U.S. reiterated its commitment to assisting Ukraine in safeguarding its sovereignty, rebuilding its economy, ensuring the safety of its citizens, and pursuing closer integration into the Euro-Atlantic community.
Notably, the United States is part of a group of 32 countries actively pursuing long-term security agreements with Ukraine. Among these nations, nine have successfully concluded negotiations and formalized such agreements.
The ongoing discussions underscore the shared commitment of the United States and Ukraine to bolstering security cooperation and reinforcing mutual interests in the region.
