The Department of State’s Bureau of Energy Resources and the Department of Commerce’s Commercial Law Development Program have announced the launch of the Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage: Handbook for Policymakers. According to Geoffrey R. Pyatt, Assistant Secretary of the Department of State’s Bureau of Energy Resources, the handbook is designed to empower key stakeholders to deploy carbon capture, utilization, and storage capabilities effectively.
The handbook aims to support global climate ambitions by promoting the responsible deployment of carbon capture, utilization, and storage technologies, as highlighted by the Department of State and Department of Commerce. It emphasizes the critical role of CCUS in addressing emissions in challenging industrial sectors and the importance of carbon dioxide removal technologies.
In a joint statement, the Departments of State and Commerce urge government policymakers and regulators to utilize the handbook's recommendations in their efforts to achieve climate and energy goals. The handbook serves as a valuable resource for understanding and implementing policies to accelerate the deployment of CCUS.
Geoffrey R. Pyatt and Stephen Gardner also announced plans to use the handbook to expand foreign technical assistance programming, providing support to countries seeking advisory services on CCUS. The handbook, available in English and soon in other languages, along with additional CCUS resources, can be accessed online through the Commercial Law Development Program's website.
