The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has announced disaster assistance for Kansas survivors affected by a severe winter storm earlier this year. According to President Biden's major disaster declaration, assistance will be provided to counties including Butler, Chase, Cloud, Edwards, and more.
In a recent statement, HUD outlined various forms of assistance available to those impacted by the disaster. Homeowners are encouraged to reach out to their mortgage or loan servicers for support, with a 90-day moratorium on foreclosures in place for certain borrowers. Additionally, mortgage insurance is being made available to help with home reconstruction or replacement through HUD's programs.
HUD is also working to connect survivors with housing providers and programs, sharing information with FEMA and the state to assist in finding available units in impacted areas. Furthermore, flexibility is being offered to Community Planning and Development Grantees, Public Housing Agencies, and Tribes to help navigate the challenges of recovery.
Individuals seeking housing counseling or facing discrimination in housing following the disaster can also access support from HUD-approved agencies and the Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity.
Overall, HUD's efforts aim to provide comprehensive assistance to those affected by the winter storm in Kansas, ensuring that survivors have access to the resources and support needed for recovery.
