Under Secretary Fernandez to Address Economic Security Challenges in Florida

Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Jose W. Fernandez is set to travel to Miami, Florida, on May 2, 2024. His visit is in conjunction with the annual Chiefs of Mission Conference hosted by the United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM).

During the conference, "Under Secretary Fernandez will address senior level diplomats from the Western Hemisphere and senior leadership from the National Security Council, Departments of State and Defense, and relevant U.S. government agencies" to discuss economic security challenges and opportunities throughout the Americas.

Additionally, "While in Miami, Under Secretary Fernandez will also meet with the private sector to discuss promoting economic growth in the region through programs like the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity (Americas Partnership)."

The Americas Partnership is described as "a new regional framework to deepen economic integration and cooperation in our hemisphere" that brings together 12 partner countries to advance regional competitiveness, resilience, shared prosperity, and inclusive and sustainable investment.

Highlighting the importance of economic partnership, it is stated that "The United States recognizes that a stronger economic partnership is fundamental to overcoming national security challenges – economic security, climate change, and irregular migration – and deliver on the President’s affirmative agenda for a more prosperous, democratic, and secure region."
