Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Todd D. Robinson is embarking on a significant journey to Saint Lucia, Barbados, and Trinidad and Tobago from May 6-10, 2024.

During his visit to Saint Lucia, Assistant Secretary Robinson will focus on U.S. initiatives to assist Caribbean nations in combating firearms trafficking. He will also announce additional support from INL to enhance the capabilities of frontline customs officers in intercepting small arms and light weapons at key Caribbean ports of entry. Moreover, discussions will be held with local officials to explore avenues for strengthening security cooperation in the Eastern Caribbean region through initiatives like the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative and the Saint Lucia regional Forensic Center of Excellence, supported by the U.S.

Moving on to Barbados, the Assistant Secretary will engage with the Regional Security System and address U.S. investments in the Regional Police Training Center. This center is poised to become the central training facility for law enforcement partners in the Caribbean in the near future.

In Trinidad and Tobago, Assistant Secretary Robinson will shine a light on the advancements achieved in key areas following the commitments made by the Vice President in the previous summer. Notably, the focus will be on the Caribbean Crime Gun Intelligence Unit (CGIU), a pivotal entity in combating the flow of firearms into the Caribbean region. Emphasizing collaboration with regional entities such as CARICOM IMPACS and law enforcement agencies across the Caribbean, the Assistant Secretary will also discuss plans for future capacity building in law enforcement and modernization of the criminal justice system with local authorities.

The trip of Assistant Secretary Robinson underscores the United States' dedication to supporting its Caribbean partners in addressing pressing security challenges and enhancing regional cooperation in law enforcement.
