Netflix's popular series 'Heartbreak High' is set to return for a third and final season. The announcement comes after the successful release of Season 2 on April 11, which premiered as one of the most-watched shows in Australia and globally. The show debuted at #1 in Australia and remained on the Global Top 10 English TV Series list for three consecutive weeks. Furthermore, the hashtag #HeartbreakHigh generated over 2 billion views on TikTok.
The upcoming season will see the cast and creators reunite in Sydney, Australia, to depict the final year at Hartley High. Que Minh Luu, Netflix Director of Content ANZ, expressed her excitement about the renewal. "Renewing Heartbreak High for its final season is a major point of pride for us at Netflix," she said.
Carly Heaton, Fremantle Head of Scripted, also shared her enthusiasm about reuniting with the team. She mentioned that they aimed to create a show where Australian young people are seen and heard and were overwhelmed by the worldwide reaction to their stories.
The latest season of Heartbreak High adds to Netflix's growing collection of Australian films and shows such as Boy Swallows Universe, Run Rabbit Run, Wellmania, Surviving Summer, ONEFOUR: Against All Odds, Love is in the Air and more.
Season 2 earned numerous accolades including an International Emmy Award for Best Kids: Live-Action and a Logie Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor (Thomas Weatherall). It was also nominated for Most Popular Drama and Most Popular New Talent (Ayesha Madon, Chloé Hayden) at the Logie Awards. Additionally, it won an AACTA Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama (Thomas Weatherall), Best Screenplay in Television (Hannah Carroll Chapman), Best Costume Design in Television (Rita Carmody), along with three Audience Choice Awards.
