Washington, DC, (May 14, 2024)—The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) has announced the establishment of the Laurence H. Silberman Chair in Constitutional Governance in memory of Judge Laurence H. Silberman, who passed away in 2022. AEI President Robert Doar revealed that Senior Fellow Adam J. White will hold the inaugural Silberman Chair.

White is an expert on the Supreme Court and the administrative state, known for his extensive research and scholarship rooted in the principles of limited government, free enterprise, and the rule of law. “Adam White’s prolific and insightful work follows in the footsteps of Judge Silberman, who was not only a giant of the conservative legal movement but a good friend of AEI, a family man, and a mentor to countless others,” said Doar.

In addition to his role at AEI, White serves as co-director at the C. Boyden Gray Center at George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia Law School and chairs the American Bar Association’s Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice Section. His work has been featured in publications such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Commentary, National Affairs, Notre Dame Law Review, and Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy.

At AEI, White has led several initiatives on constitutional government and regulation. He is also involved with AEI's project titled 'We Hold These Truths: America at 250,' which aims to celebrate America’s upcoming 250th birthday by equipping Americans with intellectual resources to appreciate their nation's exceptional tradition.

“I’m humbled and honored by the Laurence H. Silberman Chair," said White. "Judge Silberman was a teacher, a friend, and a statesman. His love for our nation and our Constitution reflects the best of American constitutional self-government.”

Robert S. Silberman expressed his family's honor towards AEI's commitment to his father's legacy. He stated, “I know Adam’s work will continue my father’s deep commitment to our Constitution and the values that make our country unique and exceptional.”
