TechNet, the national bipartisan network of innovation economy CEOs and senior executives, has issued a statement in response to the Senate's AI Roadmap. The statement, attributed to TechNet President and CEO Linda Moore, emphasizes the potential of AI to address major challenges in sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, transportation, energy, and national security.

Moore stressed the importance of recognizing and addressing the risks associated with AI for its responsible advancement. She also highlighted the need for the U.S. to lead globally in AI investment, development, and deployment to ensure safe implementation worldwide.

"The Senate’s AI Roadmap will strengthen America’s global competitiveness in AI and emerging technologies," Moore said. She further outlined how robust funding for institutions like the U.S. AI Safety Institute and the National AI Research Resource (NAIRR) would empower a new generation of AI leaders and expand innovation beyond Silicon Valley.

The roadmap also aims to enhance workforce capabilities through investments in upskilling and training programs while attracting and retaining top talent globally. It encourages passing the CREATE AI Act that would authorize NAIRR and lower barriers to entry for AI research.

Furthermore, Moore noted that the roadmap underscores implementing AI guardrails to protect democratic institutions from misuse during political campaigns. It also recommends policies that extend tech industry’s partnership with military forces to advance U.S. national security objectives.

"We applaud Leader Schumer and Senators Rounds, Heinrich, and Young for their leadership in crafting this roadmap," Moore stated. "We look forward to working with Congress to ensure America remains the world’s leader in AI."

TechNet has recently taken several actions regarding AI policy. These include lobbying for their policy recommendations with Senators, Representatives, and Biden administration officials; launching "AI for America," a $25 million initiative; releasing a comprehensive federal AI policy framework; issuing statements on President Biden's Executive Order on artificial intelligence; submitting comments on various proposals related to artificial intelligence; participating in Senate AI Insight Forum; and hosting events to discuss the impact of AI.
