President nominates military officers for promotions and new assignments

Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III announced on May 17, 2024, that the president has nominated several military officers for promotions and new assignments.

Air Force Lt. Gen. Tony D. Bauernfeind has been nominated for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general, with assignment as superintendent, U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Bauernfeind is currently serving as commander, Air Force Special Operations Command, Hurlburt Field, Florida.

Army Lt. Gen. Sean C. Bernabe has been proposed for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general, with assignment as deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Europe-Africa, Germany. Bernabe is currently serving as the commanding general, III Corps and Fort Cavazos in Texas.

Air Force Maj. Gen. John J. DeGoes is up for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as surgeon general of the Air Force at the Pentagon in Washington D.C., where he currently serves as deputy surgeon general.

Army Maj. Gen. Brian S. Eifler has been nominated for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as deputy chief of staff, G-1 at the Pentagon in Washington D.C.. Eifler is presently commanding general of the 11th Airborne Division/deputy commander at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska.

Air Force Maj. Gen Thomas K Hensley is set for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as commander at Sixteenth Air Force in Texas where he currently serves as deputy commander.

Air Force Maj.Gen David H Tabor has been put forward for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as deputy chief of staff at Plans and Programs department at Pentagon in Washington D.C., where he currently serves as director of Programs.

Lastly, Air Force Brig.Gen Michael E Conley has been nominated for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as commander at Air Force Special Operations Command in Florida where he currently serves as director of Operations.
