U.S. Representative Clay Higgins (R-La.), chairman of the House Subcommittee on Border Security and Enforcement, has expressed his concern over the current situation at the border. In a recent press release dated May 14, he stated that his resolution acknowledges this failure and "pays tribute" to local and state law enforcement.
"Biden's failure to enforce immigration laws and secure our border has brought generational trauma upon our nation,” said Higgins. "This resolution pays tribute to our state and local law enforcement officers who have worked hard to respond to increased criminal activity resulting from the border crisis. Their devotion and service to their communities are integral to our national security. I will always stand with my Brothers and Sisters of the Thin Blue Line."
According to a press release from Rep. Higgins, he and Rep. Julia Letlow (R-LA) introduced their resolution, H.Res. 1210, to honor National Police Week. The resolution aims to pay respects to both state and local law enforcement officers in the U.S., with a particular focus on their struggle to protect the country at the southern border.
U.S. Representative Mark Green (R-TN), Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, expressed his approval for the resolution in a press release. Green said that it addresses the challenges at the border and the resulting strain on law enforcement. He added, "It is crucial that we highlight the avoidable costs—financial, emotional, and physical—that the disaster at the border inflicts on the dedicated men and women tasked with securing our communities." He further emphasized that it is vital to ensure local and state law enforcement have access to necessary tools in this challenging environment.
In his resolution, Higgins condemned what he termed as an open border crisis created by President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris who serves as 'Border Czar', Secretary of Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, among other officials of Biden administration along the southwest border. Higgins stated that he not only sympathizes with law enforcement struggling at the southern border but also urged Federal and state officials to support these officers.
According to his website, Higgins represents Louisiana’s 3rd District in Congress. He is a member of both House Oversight & Accountability Committee and House Committee on Homeland Security where he chairs Subcommittee on Border Security and Enforcement. Additionally, Higgins is an Army Veteran and former law enforcement officer.
